KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday severely criticised CPM state committee member M V Jayarajan and directed him to appear before it on Friday. The court also cautioned that suo motu action may be initiated against him. What provoked the court is the critical remarks made by Jayarajan, that too, after the court ordered to file charge-sheet on a contempt of court case against him for his remarks on a High Court order banning public meetings on roadside. The contempt case was considered on Wednesday for issuing the charge-sheet. The court had also directed Jayarajan to appear before it on Wednesday. However, Jayarajan filed an application through his counsel seeking exemption from appearing in court till June 24. Jayarajan on Tuesday had filed an appeal before the Supreme Court against the High Court order."Therefore the hearing may be postponed to a date till the Supreme Court considers the appeal," he submitted. However, the court rejected the demand and directed him to appear on Friday. "Judges are not fools. They know that their decision could be challenged in a higher court. But this is not the reason to seek exemption from appearing," the court said.
