Surat: Police seized around Rs 3.80 crore demonetised currency notes here on Sunday early morning and arrested a man.

During a routine checking of vehicles in Rander locality, Rs 3.80 crore in the defunct Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were seized from a car, said inspector R M Sarode.

Vishal Barad, who was carrying the cash, told police that he had collected it from a person in Vadodara, Sarode said.

"He hasn't yet disclosed how he was going to utilise the scrapped notes," the officer said, adding that he was put under arrest and further probe was on.
