A home for inebriated men and stray dogs is what has become of the corporation-owned commercial complex Sarathi Maligai, and it was no different when Vellore Corporation Mayor P Karthiyayini conducted an inspection of the building on Wednesday.
However, the Mayor was unable to inspect the entire stretch, as some areas smelled foul. Locals blamed it on the toilets in the building that were unclean due to lack of water. Following this, Karthiyayini ordered for immediate supply of water to the building.
“Patchworks would be done on pathways and slabs in front of the business centre would be refixed. A gate would be fixed at the entrance and a security guard will be deployed at the building,” she added.
“The corporation has allotted a sum of `10 lakh towards painting and restoration work. Painting was undertaken at a cost of `3 lakh and has been completed, lighting and other work are yet to be completed.” she said.
