New Delhi: It isn't everyday that the Director of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) goes visiting public toilets in the Capital.
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered the MCD Director V S Seth to personally inspect the conditions of public toilets in Delhi and file a report about the works done by the civic body by Thursday.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Swatantara Kumar and Justice H R Malhotra refused to accept Seth's statement that the MCD had improved the conditions of 178 public toilets and urinals in the city.
"It is very difficult to inspect such places during daytime. You (Seth) yourself go and inspect them (toilets) tonight and then make the statement in the Court tomorrow," PTI quoted the Bench as saying.
The Court flayed Seth for not adhering to its earlier orders of making public toilets hygenic and disabled friendly. The Bench had earlier stated that non-implementation of its orders may attract coercive actions including issuance of contempt notice against the authorities.
Interestingly, the move comes ahead of the MCD elections that are to be held in the first week of April.
