Orlando, Florida: Though disappointed at his dramatic finish at The Olympic Club on Sunday, former US Open champion Graeme McDowell is targeting next month's Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
The Northern Irishman was in with a chance to beat eventual US Open winner Webb Simpson but ended up seeing his 24-feet birdie putt at the last slip by the hole. However, McDowell has taken confidence from his performance in San Francisco and believes he can win more Majors.
"I have a couple of 'Majors' coming up in the next few weeks. I'm excited about the Irish Open at Royal Portrush next week and I am sure they will be expecting plenty from me now," McDowell said. "After that I will probably take the week of the Scottish Open off and go to Lytham and prepare. I fancy a run at that Claret Jug."
Asked what he would take from the US Open, McDowell, who moved up ten places in the latest world rankings to 11th, said: "I will take away a large cheque and I'm probably very close to locking my Ryder Cup place, which is more important to me. I will take a huge amount of belief in myself that I can compete on the biggest stage and win.
"To have the chance to win and come up one short, hitting it the way I was hitting it today - I wasn't on top of my game in any shape or form - I believe I can win more Major Championships. I will take a huge amount of positives away from this week. I am disappointed, yes, but part of me is also very proud [that] I battled back from a disappointing start."
