MEA calls Tanzanian woman 'attack' in Bengaluru an isolated incident
On Sunday, the Tanzanian woman was allegedly beaten and stripped in Bengaluru, which happened after a road accident.

New Delhi: Hours after a Tanzanian woman was 'stripped' by mob in Bengaluru, MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Thursday said that the incident should be seen as an isolated one which happened after the road accident.

On Sunday, the Tanzanian woman alleged that she was beaten and stripped after she found herself in the midst of mob after another woman was run over and killed by a Sudanese student.

Defending that foreign students and nationals are safe in India, Swarup said, there are 5,000 foreign students living in Bengaluru. India is safe for them. “We are taking further steps for their safety to prevent such untoward incident,” he added.

"We condemn this incident unequivocally. We will extend full co-operation in investigation to ensure stringent punishment to the perpetrators. We have assured our African friends that necessary legal action will be taken," he said.

He added that a team of officials is going to Bengaluru on Friday including the High Commissioner of Tanzania, Joint Secretary (States), Director (East & Southern Africa in MEA) and Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

He claimed that the Chief Minister of Karnataka assured that stern action will be taken against the accused.

On the context of JuD chief and Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed who warned India of more terror attacks, he said, "It should be a matter of great concern to everyone that people like Hafiz Saeed continue to enjoy freedom to indulge in their activities. He is an internationally designated known terrorist and it is for Pakistan to put a stop to his activities."
