MHA Forms Expert Committee to Explore Alternative to Pellet Guns
An expert committee was formed by MHA to explore alternative use of pellet guns to control mob in India.

New Delhi: Centre has formed a seven-member expert team, which will be headed by a Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, to explore alternative use of pellet guns to maintain law and order situation in disturbed areas.

The decision was taken after the government faced severe criticism for using pellet guns to control mob in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources in the ministry said, "The seven-member expert committee was asked to submit a report within two months."

The Committee includes officers of CRPF, BSF, J&K Police beside experts from the home ministers

Many youths have been injured in last one month when CRPF personnel used pellet guns to control protesters in the wake of Burhan Wani's - a terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen - killing in a gun battle with the security forces.

The widespread criticism for the use of pellet guns, prompted the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to announce in parliament that a committee will be set up to look for an alternative to it.
