BANGALORE: Agricultural Minister Umesh Katti said banks across the state were developed due to micro finance, especially in the rural areas. According to him,farmers and the agricultural institutes were benefited from it.He was speaking at a function organised by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD) to distribute 2010-11 awards for the SHG-JLG (Self Help Group and Joint Liability Groups) in the city.NABARD’s objective behind the award was to motivate and support the people’s organisation for best performances in SHGs and JLG linkage, FarmersClub, VDP(Village Development Programme)and for sponsoring NGOs and banks.Katti said proper banking facility in the rural areas was needed for healthy development “But unfortunately the rural parts of the country is denied facilities,” he added.Chief General Manager NABARD SNA Jinnah said with 6.8 lakh SHG-JLH, Karnataka was at the forefront. “There are two main objectives behind this award, one is to further encourage them and second is to learn and understand what best practices they are implementing,” he added. According to him, SHG and JLG helped the livelihood of landless farmers through credits from various banks.Among commercial banks , State Bank of Mysore, Cauvery Kalpatharu Grameena Bank among regional rural banks and Tumkur District Central Co-operative Bank Ltd among cooperative banks were best performers in the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme in 2010-11.
