CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday effected the first reshuffle of her new cabinet. She brought in Ranipet MLA A Mohammed John as the minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare. The portfolios of seven ministers, including that of T K M Chinnaiah and M C Sampath, have also been reallocated.An official press release from Raj Bhavan said Mohammed John will be sworn in on Wednesday and shall be in charge of the portfolios of backward classes, most backward classes, denotified communities, overseas Indians, refugees and evacuees and minorities, including the wakf. Chinnayya, who held these subjects so far, will now handle the Environment and Pollution control portfolio alone. After Environment Minister Mariam Pitchai died in a road accident, Chinnayya had been given additional charge of environment besides backward classes. The portfolios of rural, small and cottage industries held by M C Sampath would now go to C Shanmugavelu. The subjects industries, steel control, mines and minerals besides special initiatives held by Shanmugavelu have been allotted to S P Velumani. Implementation of Special Programmes, including Implementation of the Election Manifesto held by Velumani goes to M C Sampath. Animal Husbandry, Milk and Dairy Development held by C Karuppasamy has been allotted to N R Sivapathi. Karuppasamy will now take over the portfolios of Sports and Youth Welfare that was previously held by N R Sivapathi.
