The Oversight Committee is awaiting inputs from two groups for finalising its interim report.

New Delhi: The Oversight Committee formed to facilitate the implementation of the 27 per cent OBC quota in higher educational institutes is awaiting inputs from two groups for finalising its interim report.

"Of the five sub-groups, two groups going into requirements of technological and engineering institutions and management institutions are likely to give their reports in two to three days," Committee Chairman M Veerappa Moily said.

He said he had held discussions with M Anandakrishnan, who is heading the sub-group on technical and engineering institutions on Friday.

Reports have said the directors of all IIMs have expressed the view that it would be unrealistic to launch full-scale reservations for OBCs from June 2007.

The five sub-groups were to have submitted their advance action plan by June 30 to enable the Committee to finalise by July 10 its interim report, which would then be submitted to the government.

The other three sub-groups went into the needs of Central universities, health and agricultural institutions.

Asked when the panel proposed to submit the interim report, Moily said the Oversight Committee, which is meeting on July 13, would decide on the issue.

The final report is expected to be submitted by August 31. The Committee is keen on submitting an interim report to apprise the government about advance planning on finances, infrastructure and faculty that would have to be be done by 2007, when the reservation policy will be implemented.
