All India Congress Committee (AICC) Treasurer Motilal Vora and late Dilip Singh Judeo's nephew Ranvijay Pratap Singh Judeo of BJP on Tuesday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election from Chhattisgarh.
Vora and Ranvijay Singh have filed their nominations for the two Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant on April 9, Principal Secretary Chhattisgarh Assembly and Returning Officer Devendra Verma told PTI.
Elections to the Upper House will take place on February 7, he said. Ranvijay Pratap Singh Judeo, scion of the erstwhile royal family of Jashpur, filed his nomination in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Cabinet ministers and other party leaders.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, Ranvijay not only ensured the party's victory from Jashpur and Kunkuri, but also managed to wrest the Pathalgaon seat from Congress veteran Rampukar Singh, who had won seven elections from the constituency in the past.
The saffron party has not repeated its outgoing Rajya Sabha member, former party state unit president Shivpratap Singh. Presently, out of five Rajya Sabha seats in the state, Nandkumar Sai, Bhusanlal Jangde and Shivpratap Singh are from BJP, while two others -- Motilal Vora and Mohsina Kidwai-- are from Congress.
