Mumbai: The 11-day-long Ganesh festival will come to an end across Maharashtra on Tuesday on the occasion of 'Anant Chaturdashi' with the immersion of the deity of Lord Ganesh.
'Anant Chaturdashi' is the 14th day of the bright half of Bhadrapad month and the last day of the Ganesh festival.
A tight security blanket has been thrown in all across Mumbai and other cities of the state as the people readied to bid adieu to their favourite deity. Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the big day.
In Mumbai, idols of all sizes of the Lord will make their way to the nearby lakes and the seashores since early afternoon. Amid chants of Ganpati bappa morya. Pudhchya varshi lavkar ya. Ganpati gele gavala, chain padena amhala , devotees will dance to the tunes of lezim to see off the lord.
The famed ‘Lalbagcha Raja’ will begin his journey in the afternoon. More than 1 lakh idols will be immersed by midnight on Tuesday. Mumbai mayor Shubha Raul will undertake an aerial survey of the main venue, Girgaum chowpathy.
The city police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the immersion passes off peacefully. The traffic police have already given details of diversions and closure of routes during the period.
