HYDERABAD: The first multi-level parking complex is going to come up in the city at the old pension office in Khilwat. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the project on Sunday. The multi-level parking system will be semi-automated with retrieving of vehicles done by using lifts controlled by a software access system. The facility will come up near Lad Bazaar in an area of 2,150 sq metres.Speaking to Express, GHMC officials said the project is being taken up as part of the Charminar Pedestrianisation project. A consortium led by Futurage Infrastructure India Pvt Ltd has bagged the contract and works will begin soon. The parking complex built on five floors, will have space for over 400 four-wheelers and 200 two-wheelers. While conventional ramps will be in place for parking floors below the ground level, an automated machine will take vehicles to floors above the ground level.Officials said the new parking complex will go a long way in solving parking problems in the Old City. With increasing number of vehicles and many commercial establishments coming up, the city is facing space crunch in busy areas. The civic body has also proposed vertical parking lots in other areas, in which vehicles can be parked on different floors using a lift. The GHMC has decided to construct more multi-level parking lots in Kukatpally, Paradise, Koti, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Masab Tank, near the regional passport office in Secunderabad and old maternity hospital at Nayapul.
