An accused in a murder case was found dead inside his lock-up at Pahasu Police Station here, following which the entire staff of the police station was suspended for illegally keeping him under detention.
According to SSP Umesh Kumar Singh, Chand (22) of village Karora under Pahasu Police station was arrested on Sunday from Allahabad for murder of his brother's wife.
Instead of sending the accused to jail, he was kept in police lock-up since Sunday without any entry in the records, Singh said.
The accused was found hanging last night in his cell with a rope made from his blanket when the sentry went to serve him food, the SSP added.
The SP (City) here has been entrusted to enquire the matter and the DGP at Lucknow has been requested to permit a judicial probe in this connection, Singh said.
