ANGUL: After surviving a no-confidence motion against her on Thursday, Athmallick NAC Chairperson Nihar Hota was arrested along with her husband Santosh Hota on charges of assaulting a councillor.Councillor Suhasini Sethi was allegedly roughed up by Nihar and Santosh during the meeting. She lodged an FIR with the Athmallick Police following which they were arrested. They were produced in court on Thursday, said Angul SP Satyabrata Bhoi.The injured Sethi has been admitted to Angul Government Hospital. The no-confidence motion was brought by eight Congress councillors against Nihar, an independent. With the post of Athmallick sub-collector lying vacant for the last six months, BDO Pratap Pritipamay conducted the meeting. Tension prevailed at the meeting following which the police were called in. Many councillors were injured in the tussle that ensued. “Ten out of 11 councillors turned up for the no-confidence motion. While eight took part in the voting, two abstained. The motion was defeated with seven votes being cast in favour of the chairperson,” said the BDO. He admitted to the violence during the meeting.
