New Delhi: Defending champion Rafael Nadal rallied past Marcos Baghdatis 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of the Dubai Open on Tuesday.
Nadal was playing his first match since the Australian Open quarter-finals.
After being broken in the first game and dropping the first set, the Spaniard rebounded in the second set by breaking twice, going up 5-2 on a double-fault by the Cypriot.
In the third, Nadal broke in the third game and won on his second match point.
"After the first set - the first was difficult because when you are one month out of competition, it's always difficult for the rhythm. But after that I felt more comfortable on court and finally maybe played one of my best matches in the year," Nadal said after his win.
Third-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, fifth-seeded Tommy Haas and seventh-seeded Novak Djokovic were the other prominent winners of the day.
