The P A Sangma-led National People s Party (NPP) on Saturday celebrated their first anniversary in Meghalaya with the party's flag unfurled in several parts of the Garo Hills region and in the state capital.

In Shillong, NPP state working president and former speaker Conrad K Sangma Speaking at the meeting, Conrad K Sangma highlighted the party s vision for the state ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. "P A Sangma has scheduled to tour the Garo Hills region in September and I'll accompany him during this tour," Conrad said.

He said this tour is part of the preparation of the party for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. As for the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region, Conrad said the party was keen on working with likeminded parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Meghalaya has two MP constituencies one each for the Garo Hills region and the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. One is held by P A Sangma s daughter Agatha Sangma, an NCP MP and the other held by the Congress.

The NPP performed badly in the last assembly elections and could retain only two seats out of 15 they won in 2008.
