Jaipur: Suspended Congress leader Natwar Singh is embroiled in a land dispute case with his younger brother Bharat Singh, who has taken the matter to the Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Ashok Parihar of the Jaipur bench of the High Court recently issued notices to Natwar Singh, his son Jagat and the state government, copies of which were made available on Wednesday, seeking their response to the petition filed by Bharat Singh.
Bharat Singh alleged that three bighas of land that was part of his family's ancestral property had wrongly been allotted by the state government at a concessional rate to Natwar Singh and his son Jagat.
The matter is expected to come up for hearing again next week.
Bharat Singh said in his writ that agricultural land worth Rs 60 crore, situated near the ancestral property at Bharatpur, was acquired by the state government in 1972-73.
The Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) at Bharatpur compensated Bharat Singh after taking possession of the land. Under existing laws, he later applied for three bighas to be allotted to him at a concessional rate.
Bharat Singh's petition alleged that in May, the UIT was instructed by the deputy secretary of the state urban development and housing department to allot the land to Natwar Singh and Jagat. K S Rathore, Bharat Singh's counsel, alleged Natwar Singh and Jagat had never been in possession of the land and it was allotted to them at "throwaway prices".
Natwar Singh was suspended by the Congress after being indicted by the Pathak Inquiry Authority that probed charges of his involvement in the Iraqi oil-for-food scam.
