MYSORE: The elected representatives pulled up officials for their failure in executing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and for the scarcity of cotton seeds and fertilisers in Mysore district.
In a review meeting chaired by District Minister SA Ramadas at ZP Conference Hall here on Monday, they alleged that there was no focus on utilising funds under NREGS to create assets and make headway in promoting organic farming and increasing yield.Agriculture Joint Director Krishnaiah was forced to take on a series of questions from legislators as many of them sought the reason for the delay and scarcity of cotton seeds and fertilisers.

Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah said the quantity of fertiliser utilisation had not come down, despite promoting organic farming in the past three years. He said the district continues to use 1.35 lakh tonnes of chemical fertilisers. He said the Suvarana Bhommi programme, which is extending financial support to small farmers, is a failure as only 15,000 farmers are selected from 85,000 applicants through lottery.

Periyapatna MLA K Venaktesh and MLC G Madusudhan said there were reports of fertiliser scarcity.
