BANGALORE: The Cabinet on Saturday decided to develop a parallel road connecting Karnataka and Kerala instead of the existing road through Bandipur National Park.Briefing the media on the Cabinet decisions, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that an alternative road 46 km long passing through Gonikoppa, Ponnampet and Virajpet would be developed at a cost of  Rs 49 crore.Vehicular movement on the existing road through Gundlupet and Sultan Bathery has been restricted as it falls under the national forest areas.Kageri said that the decision to develop the new road was an outcome of the talks between the Karnataka and Kerala governments.Meanwhile, the Cabinet also decided to sanction Rs 525 crore for comprehensive development of horticulture in the state in the next three years. A sum of Rs150 crore would be released in the first year for the scheme. The state expects a grant of Rs 125 crore from the Centre for the scheme.The Cabinet approved to sanction of Rs 15 crore for renovation of the Legislative Assembly Hall.Under the Suvarna Bhoomi scheme, the government has decided to cover 1,000 more villages in addition to the 3,000 villages already taken up for development, for which Rs1,012 crore will be sanctioned. A sum of Rs 17.5 crore has been sanctioned to bail out potato farmers suffering losses due to the Angamaari disease. The state Cabinet gave approval for rehabilitation of Aihole village, which will include relocation of 942 houses at a cost of Rs 50 crore.About 400 employees would be recruited to ensure proper implementation of Sakala in all government departments.It has been decided to hike funds for developing judicial buildings and judges’ houses from Rs 126 crore and Rs 83.30 crore to Rs 250 crore and Rs195 crore respectively.In addition to existing six unorganised sectors covered under the pension scheme, the state Cabinet approved to include labourers from 32 more unorganised sectors and grant them monthly pensions of Rs 1,000 after their retirement.
