Raipur/Jamshedpur: Security forces have managed to gun down at least 10 Naxals in two separate incidents. While nine Naxals were killed by a combined team Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Chhattisgarh Police in Jagargunda in Chhattisgarh, a sub-zonal commander of the CPI (Maoist) was killed at Bardi village in the Naxal-hit Ghatsila sub-division in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Monday night by Jharkhand Police.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of the CRPF's 111 battalion accompanied by two special police officers (SPOs) and four state policemen encircled the Naxals in the jungles of Jagargunda in Dantewada district around 9 AM.

So far, nine bodies of the Naxals have been recovered, Superintendent of Police, Dantewada, SRP Kalluri said.

He said the encounter had taken place in thick jungles and he had not received any report of any casualty among the security forces.

The security personnel have also recovered arms and explosives from the site and a search operation is still on, the official said.

Dantewada has been a Naxal hotbed and security forces have been trying to conduct successful operations in the area after 75 CRPF personnel and a state policeman were killed in a deadly ambush by the Maoists in April.

In another incident one Naxal was killed and two others arrested following a fierce encounter with the police at Bardi village of Jharkhand.

DIG (Kolhan) Navin Kumar Singh said that Dalma squad sub-zonal commander Arup Mochi was killed and two other Maoists - Maheshwar Mahto and Ganesh Chandra Tudu - were arrested in the encounter on Monday night.

Singh said one more person was detained for interrogation.

The police also recovered two police rifles, one 9mm pistol and one 7.65 mm pistol alongwith a large quantity of live cardridges and cash from the spot.

The encounter took place a day after suspected Maoists shot at and critically injured a villager at Sonahatu village under Chakulia police station.
