New Delhi: In the wake of Friday's carnage of more than 40 people, mostly Biharis, Bihar government on Saturday sounded a red alert.
The banned ULFA outfit was held responsible for the killings in Assam's Tinsukia district on Saturday.
The Bihar government had sent a delegation of ministers to Assam to assess the security arrangements of Biharis residing there and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to kin of each victim of the carnage, hailing from Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed concern over making the Bihari populace in Assam the soft target of ULFA militants during the last two years and condemned the carnage in a press conference in Patna, where he disclosed the government's decision.
UNI quoted Nitish as saying, ''I talked to Assam Chief Minister Mr Tarun Gogoi today over telephone to express my deep concern over the incident in the state killing Biharis living there. He had assured me to take necessary steps in providing security to them.''
To check possible reprisals in the state, steps had been taken to provide security to train passengers to and from Assam passing through Bihar.
