Chennai: Rahil Noorani from Mumbai won an action packed race to continue his championship lead in Race One of Round Five of the 2011 JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup at the Irungattukottai Race Track, Sriperumbudur, Chennai.
The young driver completed the race in 20:46.700 minutes. Second to finish was Oshan Kothadiya who crossed the finishing line in 2.375 seconds. Avdumber Hede secured third place and was just 2.477 seconds away.
Pole setter Oshan in car # 14 could not take advantage of his pole position due to the extra wheel spin on his car, which gave Rahil the opportunity to take the lead into the first corner.
Avdumber in car # 2 started fifth on the grid and quickly overtook Munjal Savla and maintained his fourth position till the eighth lap, where he overtook Mihir Dharkar in car # 19 to grab the final podium position.
Thrilled with the result, Rahil said, “qualifying went well for me yesterday and due to Vishnu’s penalty I got the opportunity to start on the first row of the grid. My startegy was to get a quick start and it worked for me. Once I overtook Oshan there was no looking back. I am sure this win will give me a good lead with respect to points over the other drivers. This race has really helped boost my confidence.''
