BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the State government to notify the fee structure for engineering colleges in the state based on Justice Padmaraj Committee's report within a week, by June 8.
Taking the government to task for not divulging the fee structure, a Division Bench consisting of Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Sathyanarayana observed: "This is like selling a male buffallo which is submerged in water by claiming that it is a female buffalo. Some people are playing around by keeping the report submitted by the fee regulatory committee headed by Justice Padmaraj in a sealed cover. If the government did not want to fix the fee structure to the professional colleges on the basis of the report or disclose the report why should it constitute the committee?"The bench also directed the State Government to reveal the contents of the report to the colleges that have not entered into the seat sharing agreement with it. According to the seat sharing agreement, the colleges are supposed to collect Rs 32,000 as fees from the students who join them through the government quota while collecting Rs 1.25 lakh from the students who get admitted directly.

It may be recalled here that some private colleges had filed writ petitions requesting the court to direct the State Government to reveal them the report submitted by the Committee headed by Justice Padmaraj and fix a uniform fee structure for all colleges.
