New Delhi: Raju Hirani's '3 Idiots' doesn't have many scenes where anybody other than Aamir Khan dominated, except some of the sequences where he had to face Silencer. The intensity of his acting was evident in the terrace scene where he challenges Amir Khan to come up with a more successful career than him in next ten years. Aamir was completely overshadowed in that sequence, in fact he looked clueless. Chatur Ramalingam's (Omi Vaidya) character was not less important than any hero of the film. It seemed an actor has burst into the scene who can transform a role into a reality.
'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji' is one of the poor Madhur Bhandarkar films and it didn't fetch any good for the actor either. Further Vaidya's distinct dialogue delivery style didn't gel with the character. It was funny because once this had been his strength.
He had a very small but important role in Rohit Dhawan's 'Desi Boyz'. He was not offered much to do in the film but even limited chances were wasted.
The real disappointment had still not come. Abbas-Mustan featured Vaidya as one of the crooks in 'Players' probably thinking that he will bring a new dimension to the character. Unfortunately, the film bombed at the box office and Vaidya was completely rejected by the audiences.
After all, it's difficult to watch any actor repeating himself or herself again and again. Remember Nana Patekar. Films such as 'Krantiveer', 'Tiranga', and 'Yashwant' established Patekar's unquestionable talent but the audience got tired after a point. Similar things happened with Johny Lever and Govinda too.
A longer inning in Bollywood not only requires patience and skill but also needs a will to change. The time has probably come for Omi Vaidya also when he should start exploring his acting potential.
Now when he is all set to hit the screens again in 'Jodi Breakers', should we expect something new from him?
