CHENNAI: Japan always had a shared history of resilience. This day, last year is yet another time in their history when their spirit of survival helped them live through the odds of a devastating experience when a severe earthquake shattered the Tohoku region, followed by a great Tsunami wave resulting in a nuclear disaster. As the world stood and watched with some of them extending their helping hands, it was their sheer courage and self-discipline that helped the Japanese rebuild what they lost in a year’s time. Today as they remembered the day of triple disaster, observed as the Japan Resilience day, the Consulate General of Japan in Chennai and ABK- AOTS DOSOKAI- TamilNadu Centre organised a photo exhibition to mark the day.Takayuki Kitagawa, acting Consul General of Japan in Chennai, said, “ We are happy that we were able to rebuild what we lost within a year’s time. The supply chain was restored. And we thank the international community which helped in the rehabilitation. Our special thanks to India which sent in their team of National Disaster Response Force.” M R Ranganathan, chairman, ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI, TN centre, talked about the resilience, the self-discipline and the preparedness shown by the Japanese in rebuilding the nation.
