Orissa govt offers to take Budhia under its wings
The government plans to make provision in the sports hostel to accommodate the wonder child.

New Delhi: With child marathon runner Budhia Singh separating from his trainer Biranchi Das, Orissa government on Monday offered to take him under its wings.

''The government will look after everything relating to Budhia Singh. We will make arrangements for the boy's boarding at a sports hostel and get him admitted in any school of his mother's choice. The government will bear all the expenses of the wonder kid,'' Orissa's Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick said.

Mallick, who has been opposed to Budhia's stay with Das from the beginning, said the government would like to make a special provision in the sports hostel guideline to accommodate the wonder child there on Monday.

''We want Budhia to grow in sports and bring laurels for the state and the country,'' she said.

Das was a judo trainer and not the proper person to guide a budding marathon talent like Budhia, she said adding ''his unscientific coaching may ruin the boy's sporting career,'' the minister said.

Meanwhile, a local court today remanded Das to judicial custody after the police arrested him on an FIR filed by the boy's mother Sukanti accusing the trainer of physically torturing the child. The case has been posted for hearing on

August 16.

Das was charged with offences under section 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the ipc and section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection.
