Just one day is left to go for the scheduled National Security Advisor (NSA)-level talks between India and Pakistan, but the fate of the dialogue is now hanging by a thread.
Reacting to India's stand that Pakistan's agenda to meet Hurriyat leaders and discuss Kashmir is unacceptable, top government sources from the neighbouring country have told CNN-IBN that it would make no sense to have the meeting in current scenario.
According to the sources, Pakistan is of the opinion that it needs some more time to reflect and then see how to re-engage.
“We are not in a position to pay for India's overreaction on the meeting with Hurriyat leaders. India must not expect us to compromise on this central issue,” said Pakistan government sources, adding that they were ready to wait.
This came after India had on Friday said that Pakistan meeting Hurriyat leaders and discussing Kashmir is unacceptable and in violation of the joint statement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Nawaz Sharif at Ufa in Russia.
India has claimed that Pakistan seems insincere to take the peace process forward, maintaining that it is committed to talk as per the Ufa agreement, with terrorism on top of the agenda.
Meanwhile, sources in the Pakistan PMO have told CNN-IBN that India is waging a media war against Pakistan adding that diplomacy must be done in a diplomatic manner.
On Friday, both sides conducted high-level meetings as the impasse over the talks continued. While Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Intelligence Bureau chief in New Delhi, Sharif met Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz and ISI chief in Islamabad.
