Lahore: The father of Pakistani film star Meera's fiance has accused her of swindling USD 400,000 from him and said he will not allow his son to marry her.
Meera recently announced that she intended to tie the knot with Navid Shahzad, a pilot of Pakistani origin settled in the US.
"Meera received 400,000 dollars from me for selling her house in the Defence area of Lahore. Later, she revealed that the property was disputed because her first husband Atiqur Rehman had filed a petition in court over its ownership," claimed Shahzad's father Raja Pervez.
Pervez said he would not allow his son to marry Meera as long as he lived. "I will not permit him to make Meera his wife," he said.
Shahzad, on the other hand, said he would try to get his father to change his mind. "I love Meera and I hope my father will give in to my desire."
Atiqur Rehman, who claims to be Meera's first husband, has said she would have to divorce him before going in for a second marriage.
"Meera cannot enter into a second marriage as she is still my lawful wife. Under Islamic and Pakistani laws, she cannot have a second husband in the presence of the first," Rehman said.
A case related to Rehman's marriage with Meera is pending in the Lahore High Court. "Meera should show courage and tell the people about her first marriage," he said.
Shahzad reportedly divorced his first wife Sheeba after having an affair with Meera. He has a daughter from his first wife.
Meera has acted in Bollywood movies like 'Kasak', and 'Nazar'.
