New Delhi: The Supreme Court has set aside a Delhi High Court order decriminalising homosexuality. The court has upheld Section 377 saying any amendments to this should be made in Parliament and the judiciary has no role to play. While the religious groups who moved the apex court have welcomed the judgement, the human rights groups that were against Section 377 have suffered a major setback.
A bunch of petitions were filed by gay rights activists and political, social and religious organizations had opposed the Delhi High Court verdict decriminalising homosexual behaviour.

- Shekhar Seshadri and other mental health professionals and other law academics.
The parties for the state were the Union of India, Home Ministry and the State of Delhi.
