DINDIGUL: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths reportedly seized ‘incriminating’ documents from the residences of former revenue minister I Periyasamy and his relatives during raids conducted at four places here on Friday.Four teams conducted simultaneous raids on the residences of Periyasamy, the sitting MLA of Athoor constituency and Dindigul DMK secretary, his son I P Senthikumar and daughter Indira in Dindigul town. Indira’s Gain-up Industries Private Limited office at Sitharavu, Nilakottai Taluk was also searched. The raids, which started around 7 am, went on till around 1 pm.According to an official release, Periyasamy allegedly accumulated movable and immovable assets in the name of his family members and himself to the tune of `1,19,65,077 disproportionate to his known sources of income while he was Minister for Revenue between May 13, 2006 and March 31, 2010. On March 8, the DVAC filed cases against Periyasamy under the Prevention of Corruption Act.A police source said, “We collected incriminating documents during (Friday’s) raids.” Local residents who gathered near Periyasamy’s house said there was talk in the town that police would conduct raids any time at the ex-minister’s house over allegations that he allocated houses under the TNHB to some influential persons by misusing his power.Periyasamy told reporters that the raids were political motivated. “We will face it legally,” he asserted.
