Preeti Jain does the Tarannum act
Starlet Preeti Jain makes a foray in Hollywood. Although her character is as controversial as her own image, she is not complaining.

Mumbai: Bollywood starlet Preeti Jain, who was in the news for allegedly conspiring to kill film producer Madhur Bhandarkar, is finally getting a break in the mainstream cinema.

Preeti, who earlier alleged that Bhandarkar sexually exploited her on promising a role in films is to play the role of bar dancer Tarannum Khan.

Titled Deepa Ka Tarannum, the film will be produced by Ranjit Sharma, directed by Satyam Satyarthi, while the lead male role will be played by superstar Amir Khan's brother, Haider Ali Khan.

The muhurat of the film will be held on Wednesday, and the producer wishes to rope in real bar dancers and bar staff, to provide authencity to the film.

The film would portray the journey of the infamous bar dancer who amassed crores of rupees with her alleged links with cricket bookies and gangsters.

Ranjeet Sharma, who is producing the Rs 1.5 crore movie says, "Tarranum's life is fasinating. How she got into betting and suddenly became a crorepati is very interesting."

Preeti and Tarannum had developed a bond during their judicial remand in connection with the respective cases and Preeti had the opportunity to watch the latter's mannerisms closely, "though it was not deliberate at that time", she

said.

"We were going through the same pain, so the bonding took place. For me she is a dear friend that's why I am doing this film and also because it has a sympathetic portrayal of bar dancers through Tarannum's character," says Preeti.

The shooting of the film is expected to wind up in 45 days and releases in April 2005.

The film will be shot in Mumbai and Dubai and will have real-life characters such as dancers, waiters and managers of now-defunct dance bars.

For Preeti, Deepa Ka Tarannum is not her debut film. She has acted in an experimental film titled Sub Kuch ? later changed to Bikau ? and produced by B R Ishara.

Preeti has also acted in a seven-minute film produced by yesteryears actress Zeenat Aman.

For Preeti, who was stuck up in legal battle, first after her alleged sexual exploitation by Bhandarkar and later for her alleged supari to an aide of gangster turned politician Arun Gawli to eliminate Bhandarkar, the new film brings a welcome change.
