Proposals worth Rs 84 crores get Corporation nod

The corporation council on Saturday approved proposals worth Rs 84 crore under the people’s planning programme for the fiscal year 2012-13.

Once the state gave its approval, various projects that will enhance the standard of living of the people will be formulated utilising the fund, Mayor Tony Chammany said at the council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Opposition councillors blamed that they were not provided with enough time to go through the agenda of the council meeting.

“Majority of proposals in the agenda were finalised without consulting the working groups. The functioning of the standing committees is not satisfactory. The Mayor is taking things casually which will destroy the base of people’s planning process,” Opposition councillor M Anilkumar said.

Meanwhile, Opposition councillor M P Maheshkumar said that the agenda regarding the fund allocation for various sectors is unclear.

Though the Mayor said that the issue can be discussed later, Mahesh said that the agenda can be passed with his dissent note.

Meanwhile, the Mayor said that priority will be given to those divisions which did not get adequate fund allocation under last year’s people’s planning programme.

A total of Rs 7 crore will be allotted for various components under the Plan Fund. Rs 1.85 crore will be allotted for projects aiming at the welfare of children, senior citizens and physically and mentally challenged people.
