CHENNAI: The Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools celebrated its 54th anniversary at the Kamrajar Memorial Hall, here on Tuesday.The theme of the event was ‘Shree Gurubhyo Namaha’ or salutation to the teacher. The function was presided over by the dean and director of PSBB Schools Y G Parthasarathy and chief guest Sudha Seshayyan, registrar of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.The event began with a choir performance by students of all the constituent schools on the theme ‘Nature — The All Pervading Teacher’.This was followed by presentations on the achievements of students and faculty of the school at national and international level competitions and the ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ highlighting the special bond shared by teachers with their disciples.The students also performed a dance drama that evoked concepts of spirituality propagated by renowned seers Adi Shankara, Ramanuja and Madavacharya, and a rendition on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and Confucius.The event also included a musical tribute to Rabindranath Tagore’s writings and Greek philosophers - Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.A contemporary interpretation of the student-teacher relationship saw a presentation on the role of Ramakant Achrekar in training cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.This was followed by an English play ‘Goodbye Mr Chips’ on a teacher’s role in society. The programme concluded with a recitation of slokas from the Gita.
