PUDUCHERRY: Chief minister N Rangasamy announced that disbursement of relief to affected agriculturists and to those whose houses had been damaged by the cyclone would begin on Tuesday. However,  disbursement of relief to fishermen has been kept in abeyance.The announcement comes in the backdrop  of  AIADMK‘s proposed demonstration against the delay in disbursement of relief, on Wednesday, as per the direction of party chief and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. Earlier P Kannan, Congress MP, had also taken up the matter with chief minister when he called on the latter at his office on Sunday and secured an assurance for distribution of the relief without further delay.  Further, the second instalment of the interim relief of `75 crore has also been  received by Puducherry government.As per the announcement made by Chief minister N Rangasamy , the government had allotted  `18,11,47,495 for damage to crop cultivated on 8405.78 hectares in Puducherry and  `10,17,30,000 for damage to crops on 5084.76 hectares in Karaikal. The affected  crops include paddy, groundnut, tapioca, sugarcane, plantain, palm tree, vegetables  and flower plants.The government has also allotted an amount of `25,08,60,000 as relief assistance for about 245,221 totally damaged houses and severely damaged houses and huts in Puducherry and Oulgaret taluk as assessed by the revenue department.Further an amount of  `26,65,55,000 has been allotted for about 26,635 totally damaged huts within the limits of Villianur and Bahour. Similarly the government has allotted an amount of  `11,32,47,000 for partially damaged houses numbering  18,594 in Puducherry and Oulgaret  taluk and 19,155 under Villianur and Bahour taluk.
