KOZHIKODE: A film institute on the model of the renowned Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune is being planned in the state, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said here on Thursday. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the closing ceremony of the State Children’s Educational Film Festival.He said that such an institute was a necessity in a state like Kerala and that he had already discussed the project with prominent film personalities like Priyadarshan and Sreenivasan. A plot in Kuthuparamba in Kannur had been identified for the project, he added. He also said that film societies that were once active in the state must be restarted. Afterwards, the minister presented the awards to the winners.Meanwhile, Daivasootram’, produced by the students of CKGNS Higher Secondary School in Kasargod swept the awards in the ‘Films by children’ section, winning the P Ramdas Award for the best director,  Chief Minister’s Award for the best film and the best actor award for lead actor Dinkar Lal.The best actress award, won by Leeda for her performance in Ten, Nine, Eight, was the lone major  award that eluded Daivasootram’. The film also dominated the senior secondary group, winning five of the eight awards on offer.
