Delhi: The Congress is yet to name a chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, but a newly-released campaign song celebrates Captain Amarinder Singh as ‘son of the soil’.
The song — gravid with verve and beats — put Singh on the anvil.
Written by Rakesh Kumar and composed by Sneha Khanwalkar, the song offers four main points. It celebrates Punjab and hopes to change it for a better tomorrow. Secondly, it promises to root out the drug menace in the state through efficient governance. The song projects Singh as the son of the land — someone who has the experience to lead the state dexterously. The song calls for action, with every stanza ending with a “chalo” that lifts the contest’s vein.
Though it does not make any direct reference to the Aam Aadmi Party — whose leadership is being termed as interloping — the song does ask the crowds to keep "outsiders" at bay, and instead choose someone who shares common interests and wants to change the face of the state for good.
Sung by Richa Sharma and Shahid Mallya, the song is easily associable. The music is an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary melodies. Folk music instruments have been used.
The song will be an integral part of every event, rally and campaign of the Congress in Punhjab. It intends to reach each and every person in the state through mobile phones and online media. The Congress party did not have a Punjab-specific campaign song in the past elections, but this time things have changed.
