SONEPUR: Train services on the busy Kolkata-Chennai route were disrupted after residents of Dungripali in the district under the banner of Dungripali Sachetan Nagarik Committee staged a rail roko on Tuesday demanding stoppage of Express trains at Dungripali. Balangir GRP arrested 24 persons, who were later released on bond. The rail roko saw the Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express being suspended at Rourkela and return to Howrah, while the Bhubaneswar-Balangir Intercity Express was short-terminated at Sambalpur. Similarly, Tata-Yeshwantpur Express was delayed by four hours and Howrah-Koraput-Sambalpur Express was terminated at Sambalpur.Maintaining that Dungripali was the lone Railway Station in Sonepur district, Nagarik Committee president Gorachand Panigrahi said the people of the district face a harrowing time commuting as they either have to go to Balangir or Bargarh to board a train.Although Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Sambalpur Railway Division, N N Patjoshi accompanied by Sonepur SP Dasrathi Nayak and other officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the protestors, it failed to break the deadlock with the railway officials expressing their helplessness in resolving the issue.Meanwhile, the Dungripali Sachetan Nagarik Committee has called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh on Wednesday and would stage a dharna in front of the tehsil office over their demand.
