Raman Singh, MLAs take oath as Chhattisgarh Assembly session begins
Raman Singh and BJP MLAs took oath as the first session of the  newly-elected Chhattisgarh Assembly began on Monday, with BJP leader Gaurishankar Agrawal set to be elected as the Speaker. Agrawal, a two-time MLA, is the only candidate who had filed nomination for Speaker's post by Sunday evening, as the deadline expired. The session will have five sittings and end on January 10, an official in Raipur said.

On Monday, the newly-elected legislators will be administered the oath by Pro-tem Speaker Satya Narayan Sharma, following which Agrawal would be declared elected as Speaker. On January 7,  the governor will address the House. On the remaining three days discussion on vote of thanks on the Governor's speech would take place. Sources said the supplementary budget would also be presented in this session.

Raman Singh-led BJP registered a victory for the third straight time by winning 49 of the 90 seats in the November Assembly elections. Congress won 39 seats, while BSP and an independent candidate registered win at one seat each.
