BANGALORE/BELLARY: Scion of Sandur royal family and former minister Murarirao Yashwanthrao Ghorpade, 82, died at a private hospital in Bangalore on Saturday after a brief illness.Ghorpade is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter. His body will be taken to his home town Sandur on Sunday and will be kept for public to pay last respects to their departed leader. The cremation will be held on Monday.A seven-time MLA from Sandur and one time MP from Raichur, Ghorpade had served as finance minister under Devraj Urs and rural development and panchayat raj minister under Veerappa Moily and S M Krishna. He retired from active politics just before 2004 Assembly elections.An acclaimed wildlife photographer, Ghorpade won several national and international photography awards. He has also penned several books, including his recent work, “Developmental Ethos and Experience”.
