Kolkata: India's Federation Cup coach Enrico Piperno says Sania Mirza was low on confidence following a string of below par performances but with an improved fitness and overall game she should do well in the Sunfeast Open WTA event.
"Sania Mirza is a bit low on confidence now. Any player who has been not doing well will be low on confidence and that is the case with her," Piperno said.
The former Davis Cupper, however, said he was sure that it was just a matter of a couple of good matches which would help Sania to bounce back.
"If she wins couple of matches, her morale will again go up," he added.
Piperno also said the Hyderabad girl was now fitter and quicker on the court and should do well in the Sunfeast Open WTA event beginning on Monday.
"I hope for India's sake she does well and I think she will do well. She seems fitter and her on-court movement is also quicker now. Her general game and volleys have improved," he said.
"We discussed shot selections. It is very important to play the right shot nowadays."
Piperno gave little importance to rankings and said "ranking is a temporary phenomenon and she will go up again."
