CHENNAI: A forum meant to create a platform to reconcile science, scientific development and education with the differently-abled community was launched on Saturday by Anna University Vice Chancellor Mannar Jawahar and Differently-abled Welfare Secretary Kannegi Packianathan. The Science Forum for Differntly-abled kicked off with a grand series of lectures and workshops by eminent speakers on the latest trends in the world of science, engineering, medicine and social sciences, with a specific focus on how to make developments in these fields relevant to people with disabilities.“There are so many developments in these fields that can make a significant difference in the lives of disabled people. We have found that most of these projects remain insulated from reaching a larger populace beyond the cities. The forum will aim to take these advances to those who need it and create awareness,” said disabled rights activist TM Deepak, who is part of the Tamil Nadu Handicapped Federation Charitable Trust, under whose aegis the Science Forum has been started.“There is also a need to bring together the large number of educated people with disabilities and create a platform for continued learning,” Deepak adds.
