Sharif's daughter thanks Modi for shawl for her grandmother

New Delhi: In a goodwill gesture soon after the meeting of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, Sharif's daughter Maryam posted a message on twitter thanking Modi for gifting a shawl to her grandmother.

In the meeting on Tuesday, PM Modi had gifted Sharif a shawl for his mother and a compilation of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's poetry. Maryam Sharif tweeted the picture writing her father had personally delivered the gift to her grandmother. "Thank u v much PM @narendramodi for the beautiful shawl for my grandmother. My father personally delivered it to her (sic)," Maryam Nawaz Sharif tweeted.

Earlier, Sharif's daughter Maryam tweeted that cordial relations with the new Indian government should be cultivated. "I personally think cordial relations with new Indian govt should be cultivated. Will help remove psychological barriers, fear & misgivings," she tweeted. She followed it up with another tweet, "It's upon the leaders to lead their countries & ppl to peace & conciliation."

Sharif who was amongst the first leaders to shake hands with the new Indian PM after ceremony, said he was honoured to participate in the grand event. "I was honoured to participate in the ceremony. I have great expectations," he said.

Modi had also taken to Twitter to share his exchange of thoughts with Sharif during his swearing-in at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. "Nawaz Sharif ji told me that he stays in Islamabad but goes to meet his mother once in a week. This time when he was eating with his mother he saw visuals on TV of my mother offering me sweets," Modi tweeted.

In another tweet, he said, "The visuals touched both Nawaz Sharif ji & his mother. He told me that after seeing the visuals his mother got very emotional."
