New Delhi: Ekta Kapoor is not just creating history by making the first prequel in Bollywood, but the producer is also ensuring that the trailer launch of her upcoming film 'Shootout At Wadala' is equally unique. Staying away from the usual promotions at hotels and theatres, Ekta gave her own twist to the film's promotion.
A mall in the NCR was turned into a battle ground where action director Tinnu Verma took the action live for the fans during the promotion of 'Shootout At Wadala'.
Around 5.30 in the evening, the sirens went out loud outside the mall premises and a car was blown into the air. A group of men took to the streets in attempt to slay each other and the sound of gun fires filled the air. Within a few seconds, ACP Isaqe Bagwan played by Anil Kapoor made his "jhakaas" entry in a police jeep and arrested all the miscreants.
The makers did not leave any stone unturned to make the live audiences experience the thrill and chill at the same time. "I think there has to be a twist and an angle of excitement in all the films and also in their promotions", said producer Ekta Kapoor.
Not just in the NCR, Ekta Kapoor gave the fans across the country their dosage of thrill and action by creating live shootouts simultaneously in four other parts of the country. "With the kind of response we have got from the live audience right now, for me, the film is already a blockbuster", said Anil Kapoor, who plays a cop in the film.
While Ekta Kapoor and Anil Kapoor became a part of the staged shootouts in NCR, the rest of the star cast took to other parts of the country to launch the theatrical trailer of the film.
Based on a book 'Dongri to Dubai', 'Shootout At Wadala' takes you back to the era of 1970s when gang war was a usual phenomenon in Mumbai. The film talks about the rivalry between two biggest gangsters of all time- Dawood Ibrahim and Manya Surve. "I decided to go with the original names of the gangsters in the film because it is important to be true to your art. If I would have changed the names, then I entire purpose of making the film would have been defeated," added Ekta.
The film is a based on the first ever encounter by the Mumbai Police and is the prequel to 2007 film 'Shootout At Lokhandwala'. "It is for the first time in Bollywood that anyone has attempted to make a prequel and I am really happy that I am a part of this film", added Anil.
With most of the films making it to the Rs 100 crore club these days, even producer Ekta Kapoor is hopeful that her latest venture works wonder at the box-office. "I hope 'Shootout At Wadala' makes it to Rs 200 crore club," added Ekta.
