It was fitting that their dates of inception werecommon. One was an actor, who was dramatis personae on stage, and was fittingly, the first Indian to be awarded the coveted French honour Chevalier, the late Sivaji Ganesan. The other, a day to commemorate a vital issue of social interest, blood donation – World Blood Donation Day.

Ganesan’s son, Ramkumar, inaugurated a blood-donation camp at the Murugan Kalyana Mantapam, South Boag Road in T Nagar, here on Monday morning. The camp was organised by Chennai Samooha Vizhippunarchi (social awakening) Trust, in concordance with the Sivaji Ilakkiya Ani.

Ramkumar was accompanied by his son, actor Dushyanth, and NDJ Ranganath, managing partner of Prarthana drive-in theatre. Speaking on the occasion, the late actor’s son lauded the initiative for its benefits to society. “It is imperative that more such campaigns are held regularly,” he added.

Speaking to City Express, Ramesh, founder president of the Chennai Samooha Vizhippunarchi Trust, said that 42 donors came forward to donate blood.

Earlier, Ramkumar offered floral tributes to the late actor’s statue near the Marina Beach. TNCC chief B S Gnanadesikan was present.
