KOZHIKODE: “The government will take steps to grant parole to the convicts of Marad riots,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was inaugurating the goat distribution to 275 families in the riot-hit Marad area near here on Saturday, as part of the Sparsham initiative.A sum of Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned by the state government for the second phase of the Sparsham Project to expand the project to Shanti Nagar. In the third phase, Rs 3 crore will be allocated for Kothi-Pallikandi area to provide houses and employment to the people living there, Oommen Chandy said. The government will upgrade this project and had entrusted District Collector P B Salim to submit a report on this, he added. State government will take initiative to create more opportunities to the workers in various units of Sparsham project, especially in the printing and binding sectors. This type of units will be opened in Nadapuram and Kasargod district too, chief minister said. The unity of the local people here now deserves immense acclamation and the government will consider every demand of the people, he said.Earlier, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited the five employment units in the coastal area along with the officials of district administration after a warm reception organised by Marad Araya Samajam and Marad Mahallu Committee. Oommen Chandy distributed goats and cattle feed at the function. Elamaram Kareem MLA presided over the meeting. Minister for Panchayats M K Muneer, District Collector P B Salim, and Mayor A K Premajam attended.
