It was a ‘green day’ celebration for students at Little Flower Convent - School for the Deaf, as its 385 students converted the school’s 85th annual day into an event that highlighted the need to save the environment.
Students of the age group of seven and 20 staged plays in English and Tamil and put up five cultural dances aimed at suggesting ways to conserve nature.
Sister Jessie, the principal of the school, said, “The teachers brainstormed and came up with ideas to make this year’s event different. They conceptualised the theme and helped students in every step,” and added that the students painstakingly learnt the dance steps without music. “The children worked very hard to put up such a performance. About 50 of them participated in the Tamil play. It was a collective effort.”
The theme of conserving nature is not new to the students of this school. “When this academic year began, the students planted saplings in the school campus. They took an oath to be environmentally conscious, and avoid doing anything that would harm nature. It is a topic that is very close to their heart,” said Sister Jessie.
V Jayakodi, Principal Secretary and State Commissioner for the Welfare of the Differently Abled, was the chief guest on the occasion.
