Tamil Nadu bans 'Vishwaroopam' for two weeks
The decision came after Tamil Nadu government reviewed situations that could rise due to Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

In some shocking turn of events, Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam which was set to release tomorrow has been banned in Tamil Nadu.

The decision came in after the government reviewed the law and order situations that could rise with the coming of Miladi-ul-Nabi, a gazetted holiday in India that marks Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

Also, 24 Muslim organizations and political parties, under the banner of 'Federation of Muslim Organisations', met home secretary R Rajagopal at the secretariat on Wednesday.

"The film is aimed at tarnishing Islam and Muslims on a deliberate note. It's release is bound to disturb communal harmony," said Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam leader and MLA M H Jawahirullah.

"The chief minister was concerned that the film could aggravate the law and order situation in the state and sought views of senior officials. It was then decided that the film would be banned for two weeks," said a senior government official.

Now it appears that Kamal is once again facing problems with the release of his film.

The release could mean that the Telugu and Hindi version will go out on January 25 and February 1 respectively as the Tamil version waits until the end of the band.

However, the actor is currently in the United States promoting the film there.

Vishwaroopam saw a grand acceptance from the audience and halls were packed fully for its opening day. Previously, the film was scheduled for a January 11 Pongal release and was canceled as problems with the Tamil Nadu theater owners association surfaced.

With so many problems lining up, will we ever get the chance to see the movie? One has to wait and watch.

What's your reaction?
