Three arrested for clash at Eriyal

KASARGOD: Three people were arrested and two cases were registered in connection with the clash that erupted between two groups over painting electric posts at Eriyal on Saturday night. CI Babu Peringayath has registered cases against 30 persons under IPC Sections 143, 145, 153 and 149 in connection with incident. The persons arrested were booked under CRPC section 151, the police said. The incident occurred late on Saturday night when a group of people attacked two youngsters alleging that they had maligned the painting on an electric post. A huge crowd had gathered on the spot following the incident. The police had to use lathis and smoke grenades to disperse the mob.  A battalion of police led by District Police Chief S Surendran and ASP Shibu reached the spot to control the mob. The incident comes within weeks after the order of the district authorities prohibiting painting of electric posts. A peace committee meet chaired by minister K P Mohanan on April 16 had ordered removal of posters and flex boards within 24 hours after public functions.
