Thiruvananthapuram: Do you know the significance of July 4? Most Americans and a few techies in Technopark know the importance of this date. July 4, the Independence Day of America, is a holiday for some US-based companies in Technopark. For certain other firms, it is a day of relaxation as it is a holiday for offices in the USA.
Wednesday was a holiday for some Technopark-based companies such as iDynamics Limited. Though a UK-based company, iDynamics usually provides a holiday on July 4 every year. Major IT-Enabled Services operating on US-based services enjoyed a free time on Wednesday. “There are about 30-40 companies having US investments. Some of these companies have less work on this day,” said M Vasudevan, senior manager, business development at Technopark.
Since IT companies do not depend on day-to- day operations like BPO companies, most of the IT employees had regular work on Wednesday. US holidays such as Thanksgiving Day celebrated on every fourth Thursday of November and Memorial Day observed every last Monday of May are idle days for most of the ITES companies in Technopark which function on US-based services. Though the US Independence Day is celebrated only on July 4, there will be less work for almost two days here.
Meanwhile, some employees find it strange as they might be busy working on regional festival days such as Onam, Vishu etc. Ironically, some of the BPO companies working 24x7 do not have holidays even on August 15 and January 26.
